Many people have heard of carpal tunnel syndrome but don’t exactly know what it is. Carpal tunnel syndrome is seen most commonly in people who are heavy computer users. Prestige International, being part of the ergonomic community, hears from many people about their RSIs (repetitive stress injuries) and carpal tunnel syndrome is one of the most prominent ones. We want to let people know about this ailment, and how to prevent and treat it.
Carpal tunnel syndrome is a result from the pinching of the median nerve as it travels through the wrist at the carpal tunnel. This can lead to myriad of symptoms, the most common being numbness is the hand, discomfort in the wrist and forearm, loss of grip strength and manual dexterity, as well as pain in the upper arm.
There is some very basic, straight forward, treatments for carpal tunnel syndrome depending on the severity of the individuals condition. Treatments can vary from lesser ones such as icing the area and stretching, to rather more extreme and invasive ones such as medications, splints, physical therapy and even surgery.
Luckily there are things you can do to prevent you from being inflicted carpal tunnel syndrome. If you are a heavy computer user don’t let you wrist rest on the desk/keyboard tray you are using, also look into investing in a vertical, elevated, or another ergonomic mouse so that you wont have the pinching of the wrist commonly found in heavy keyboard and mouse users.
If you feel pain or discomfort in your wrist, arm or hand area try adjusting you work habits and if it persists don’t shy away from contacting a medical professional, you don’t want to wait to long.
2018 was an exciting year for Prestige International, we took on new products, attended many trade shows and moved our offices to a new, updated location. Here is the recap of Prestige Internationals best year yet.
This year we took on two new products, the Mousetrapper and Koncept Lighting. Mousetrapper is a mousing alternative similar to a track pad. This central pointing device has a unique product with a great feel. Koncept is a modern looking LED task lighting line with multiple models and colors to go with any office or workstation. These two product lines are great for a healthy working environment.
Trade shows were also a highlight of 2018 for Prestige International. Prestige itself attended Applied Ergonomics, Ergo Expo, ALA and WB Mason. We also exhibited out of manufacturers booths at CES (Penclic) and Safety 2018 (Mousetrapper.) These shows are a great way to show off all of our product lines and expose them to the general and ergonomic markets.
The biggest thing to ever happen to this company also happened in 2018 as well. We moved our offices and warehouse. In our old location had both our warehouse and offices in one building and now they are separate. We moved are office down the road to a updated building and our warehouse to Florida, to a bigger location. This move was a necessary one as while we are expanding and finding more success more space was needed.
2018 was a good year for Prestige International and we have a feeling that 2019 is going to continue this success.
Winter is fastly approaching and its the time of year where people start to feel under the weather and get sick. During this time period your immune system is more compromised and you are more susceptible to illness. Nothing is more annoying than getting sick or getting other people sick. I’m going to give you a few tips to help you from catching something and so you have a healthy winter.
Get plenty of sleep. One of the most compromising things to your immune system, that is easy to remedy, is lack of sleep. Make sure you get at least eight hours of sleep every night. You should also make sure that you are comfortable when sleeping, eight hours of uncomfortable sleep could be worse than only six hours comfy sleep.
Eat properly. What you eat affects your body drastically and an awful diet can can cause an increased chance of becoming ill. During the winter months people tend to gravitate towards more hearty and heavier foods, but don’t forget to mix in plenty of fruits and vegetables.
Remember to exercise. The winter months make it harder for you to get out and exercise and many gain weight, but you can’t let it stop you completely. Whether its something you can do in your house, sit ups, pull ups and other body weight exercises, or joining a gym find a way to stay active and in shape. Although it might be cold try short runs on warmer days as well.
Get a flu shot. This may not be for everyone, but a flu shot is the number one prevention method for getting the flu. The flu is one of the more dangerous illnesses you can have during this time of the year and a shot is a surefire way you won’t get it.
Wash your hands. It sounds cliche but washing your hands and preventing the spread of germs is the best way to prevent getting sick. Soap and warm water will do the trick and make sure you do this before eating or putting your hands to your mouth for any reason.
Following these tips will help prevent you from being sick this winter. Be safe, and have a healthy hollidays season and winter.
Its been a while since we last updated you about our move and its finally complete. We have been in the new office for almost a month but I wanted to wait until the majority of the odds and ends were completed before updating you.
With this move came a lot of changes to our set up compared to our old office. Most of the desks in here are sit stands and some of us have duel monitors. We also work closer together which makes it easier to work together on things and creates more of a team environment.
We are also situated in a more robust and busy section of town in a multi-story building with myriad of offices. This creates a working environment that was different then the one in Valley Stream as it feels more like the hustle and bustle of the big city than the isolation we previously had.
We love the new look, we love the new feel and we are really looking forward to working here in the years ahead. We believe this new environment and move will help propel Prestige International.
Last week saw us attend the Ergo Expo at Paris Hotel in Las Vegas and it was a total success and a great experience. There were many new attendees this year that were able to try out all of our products for the first time. We were also able to show off our newest manufacturers and their products, that did not attend last years Ergo Expo
Mousetrapper, Score and Sit Stand Smart Mats attended the show for the first time and we received tremendous feedback on all their products. Our staple manufacturers, Evoluent, Hippus, Microdesk, Penclic, and Bakker Elkhuizen, were also there showing off both new and old products, Bakker even invested in a larger booth. We even showed off the new Koncept lights in the Prestige International Booth.
Like every year, Ergo Expo was a great experience and we saw a ton of new and old faces. We look forward to next year show and what it has in store.
Day one of Ergo Expo is in the books and it was a roaring success. We received a lot of good feedback in just the couple of hours the expo hall was open. People were really impressed with the Mousetrapper, Microdesk and Koncept lights among others.
Day one is always a good time to catch up with people you haven’t seen a while, in some cases since last year, over a few drinks.
Afterword we went out for our Prestige dinner at Trevi with all of our employees that made the trip and Sasha from Penclic. It was a great way to end the first day.
Today starts Day 2 of the show, come by booths 302-311 to check out all of our manufacturers.
Today starts the 2nd part of our moving process, moving the office space. We are uprooting from our Valley Stream office and making our way down Merrick Rd. to Lynbrook, but first we have to pack up and move everything from here.
Last week and over the weekend we started cleaning out our desks and packing up all of our supplies to make the move easier for the move this week. We are finishing that up today, because while many of us are in Las Vegas for Ergo Expo, the rest of the crew will be moving everything to the new offices.
When we get back on Monday we will be able to start working our of our new office. Its tough saying goodbye to a building that we have called home for over 20 years, but when one door closes, another opens and this new building will be great for Prestige’s growth.
We look forward to the move and all the great things that come with it.
Side note: We will be attending Ergo Expo this week, so follow us on instagram to see our updates: https://www.instagram.com/prestigeintusa/?hl=en
If you read our last post you would know that we are changing warehouses and moving our shipping operations down to Florida. This new warehouse is larger and more up to date to accommodate the increase in business and orders that we have had over the last several months.
The moving trucks had arrived Sunday and the warehouse is now ready and operational. Sherry, Marc and Shorty all put in hard work and were able to get it up and running ahead of schedule.
This move was much needed as we have been in our old location since March of 1997. This location is a vast improvement over our old building, although with so much history in the old place it will be missed.
Our offices are currently still based in our old building until the end of the month, so stay tuned for Phase 2 of our move, when we change offices.
